Housing Shortage Hurts All
The real estate boom in our area has resulted in a housing crisis for many, including Manatee Glens’ clients. We have become somewhat creative in our search for housing that fits the income and needs of our clients. We are seeking help from the community, if you own, or know people who own, apartments for rent.
We are in particular need of one-bedroom units at a maximum rate of $557 per month for one-bedroom units. Security deposits equal to one-month’s rent would also be covered.
Landlords love working with Manatee Glens’ Rehab Department because so many of the usual hassles are eliminated. Rent is paid on time and any tenant concerns can be referred to the Housing Specialist for help.
To qualify for renting to our clients units must be able to pass certain standards. The review is thorough, but the standards follow common sense guidelines (e.g., no exposed wires, no leaks or gaping holes, no broken locks or windows). Additionally, one-bedroom units cannot be shared. That is, each unit must have exclusive access to its own kitchen and bathroom. "Mother-in-Law" style units are also acceptable (even if connected to adjacent units), given there is no "thoroughfare" and the unit has its own entrance.
If you, a friend, a family member, or mere acquaintance is interested in offering suitable rentals, please contact Jonathan Fowler, our Community Rehabilitation Manager, via email Housing Department.
